Axel was brought to our orphanage about two years ago by his parents, who said that they were incapable of caring for him. I rather thought it was more that they didn't want to take the time--they were quite rich, and were involved in all kinds of high-society activities. I had the feeling they simply didn't want the child anymore, after the novelty of his infanthood had worn off.

They signed the release papers, which makes the boy legally a ward of Adamante, and they will be able to have no legal claim to him in the future. The boy showed no signs of physical abuse, so we did not arrest the parents, but he doesn;t speak much of his past, and I have the idea he hasn;t had a very pleasant or fun childhood.
